Sacramento authorities try to ID abandoned toddler

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help identifying a female toddler who was brought to a south Sacramento fire station over the weekend.

The young girl, who appears to be around 2 years old, was taken around midnight Sunday to Fire Station 57 on the 7900 block of East Parkway in Parkway Estates by an unnamed man, deputies said in a news release, after an unidentified woman left the girl in his car.

According to media reports, the man told authorities that a woman jumped into his car with the toddler in the Walmart parking lot on Florin Road, saying she was being chased. The man said that after he drove the two around the area, the woman leaped out of the vehicle, leaving the girl behind.

The girl, who was not harmed, has been placed into protective custody with Child Protective Services.

The release asks anyone with information about the child’s identity to contact the sheriff’s office at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP. The release said that tips may also be left anonymously at the Sacramento County sheriff’s website or by calling 916-874-TIPS.
