Landing the Martian
In 2009, the Yankees swooped in and signed a 16-year old prospect from the Dominican Republic who wowed everyone. Today, he’s their starting catcher.
Today, the Yankees have signed another 16-year old from the Dominican, Jasson Dominguez, aka “The Martian” because he is not of this world. (That’s a good nickname). Why Jasson with the extra s? No clue, but he is named after Jason Giambi because his Dad was a huge Yankee fan. Unlike Giambi, he is a switch-hitting centerfielder, who can create exit velocities exceeding 110-mph from both sides of the plate.
Because he is 16, he won’t be able to play professionally until next season, but once he does it will be fun to watch.

More injuries for the Yankees, and a curious move. They have ILed Luke Voit, not a shock as they can give him almost two weeks to heal thanks to the All-Star Break. Because Voit is going to the IL, they again used an injury to recall Nester Cortes, who they clearly love as the second pitcher when they use an opener. They also demoted Chance Adams, and recalled Mike Ford. The Ford move is curious because they have LeMahieu and Encarnacion to play first already, and they could have brought Frazier back. I suspect it might be because they want to use Ford as a pinch-hitter the next two nights in a NL Park, but we shall see.
