Princess Diana’s friend has revealed the heartbreaking phone call he had with the royal following her divorce from Prince Charles
PRINCESS Diana and Prince Charles had been married for 15 years before they eventually divorced in 1996.
And now, one of the princess’ close friends has spoken out about the heartbreaking conversation he had with Diana following the split.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, holistic health practitioner Nish Joshi recalled the moment he heard from Diana after the divorce.
“I remember when she got her decree absolute from Charles, she called me up in tears,” he explained.
“I said, ‘You’ll be fine.’
“Then after a moment she collected herself and said, ‘Well, I suppose £21 million is not bad for an ex-nanny,’ which I thought was cute.”
Prior to Prince Charles and Diana marrying in 1981, Diana had been living in London and working as a dance teacher and a nanny.
The couple tied the knot at St Paul’s Cathedral, and the ceremony was a traditional Church of England wedding.
It was estimated to have been watched by a global TV audience of 750 million, and the UK had a national holiday on the day too.
However, the couple famously split in 1992 before finalising their divorce in 1996.
According to reports, there was one moment that marked the beginning of the end for the couple – and it was all down to a passing comment made by Prince Charles.
Despite being “very, very close to each other” in the later stages of her second pregnancy, Princess Diana revealed in a 1991 interview that her relationship with Prince Charles “went down the drain” following Harry’s birth.
According to Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton in his book Diana: Her True Story, she revealed that the first thing her husband said to her when Harry was born was: “Oh God, it’s a boy”.
But Charles insisted that he was just “joking”.
While the royal mother already knew the gender of the baby “because I saw on the scan”, Diana deliberately kept it a secret from her husband because he’d always “wanted a girl” and she knew that he would be disappointed.
Despite this, Diana’s astrologer Debbie Frank recently claimed she thought Diana loved Charles “until her dying day”.
She told the Daily Mail: “I think she loved Charles until her dying day.
“I’m not saying she longed for him. She didn’t.
“I think she’d managed to get some distance.”
