Newbie Question - Do I need these fins?

Hi All!

I have just stumbled onto this forum when looking for Kayak information and I thought I'd sign up as it seems a nice friendly place.

I have a quick question regarding an inflatable Kayak I recently purchased. (Inflatable because I can't fit any other type in my car unfortunately.)

Anyway, It has little fins that I believe are called Keels that clip onto the bottom of the Kayak. They are all well and good being there but it makes putting it into and taking it out of water a lot more difficult as I can't put it down on the floor once they are fitted.

The question that I have is, do I need them? Will I keep tipping over without them or find it harder to stay in a striaght line?
