Chelsea fans call Billy Gilmour ‘our Iniesta’ after impressive debut in friendly v Bohemians

CHELSEA fans raved about Billy Gilmour after the Scotland U-21 star’s display against Bohemians.

The 18-year-old made his Blues bow in Ireland in what was also Frank Lampard’s first outing as manager.

The game finished 1-1 and several youngsters including Ethan Ampadu, Marc Guehi and Trevoh Chalobah also featured.

Lampard said: “I thought some of the performances today, particularly from some of the young lads, were really good.”

But it was ex-Rangers kid Gilmour who really caught the eye of Chelsea supporters – with some comparing him to Spain legends Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas and David Silva.

@Tkraisi said: “Billy Gilmour deserves to be promoted to the first team. Very creative on the ball, good movement and dangerous. Reminds me of Silva or Iniesta.”

@VintageKepa joked: “Whatever happens it’s only pre season so let’s not get carried away – Billy Gilmour is Iniesta and [Zinedine] Zidane combined.”

The playmaker went close on two occasions, with one strike hitting the side netting and another tipped wide by Bohemians goalie James Talbot.

@Chelsea_Based1 wrote: “Billy Gilmour is our version of David Silva – impressed with his touches and movement. One to look out for in the future.”

@ffzsliam said: “Billy Gilmour is going straight to the very top.”

@FutbolCheIsea added: “Billy Gilmour is very special, this could be his breakthrough season.”

@Fuaattt_CFC joked: “Billy Gilmour, haggis Iniesta.”

@TJonesCFC wrote: “Billy Gilmour – Scotland’s greatest export since Irn-Bru. #CFCinDublin.”

Gilmour will be hoping for another opportunity to impress Lampard this Saturday.

The Blues will conclude their Irish tour with a clash against St Patrick’s in Dublin.

They then head to Japan to face Kawasaki Frontale in Yokohama before taking on Barcelona in Saitama.
