Tottenham Hotspur join race to 23-year-old midfielder – report
Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Lilywhites are keen on a deal to bring the 23-year-old to White Hart Lane as they look to add to their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The same story says that Spurs are facing competition from early front-runners Aston Villa, who are also keen on signing Phillips this summer.
It is claimed in the same article that Tottenham are hoping that the lure of Champions League football and a hefty increase on his £10,000 a week salary will help them to get a deal done.
Phillips scored one goal and made three assists in 44 Championship appearances for Leeds United last season.
Newcastle, Bournemouth and Wolves are also all said to have an interest in signing Phillips this summer.
Spurs sealed their place in next season’s Champions League by finishing in fourth place in the Premier League table last term.
The Lilywhites came close to winning their first trophy under Mauricio Pochettino last season but they ended up losing 2-0 to Liverpool FC back at the start of last month.
