Opera talk at JCC

The next installment of the San Francisco Opera Lecture Series features a discussion of “If I Were You” by composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer. SFO will present the opera’s world premiere this season.

The lecture, given by Scheer and SFO dramaturg Kip Cranna, is set for July 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center. It’s free to members of the JCC, the Italian American Heritage Foundation and the San Jose and San Francisco opera guilds; non-members pay $10 at the door.

Committee members sought

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District is seeking applicants to serve on its Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.

District voters recently approved an extension of Measure A, the high school district’s $49-per-parcel tax.  The independent citizens’ oversight committee annually reviews the district’s compliance with the terms of Measure A.  The committee includes parents, guardians and community members.

Applications are available via the district website at www.lgsuhsd.org; at the superintendent’s office at 17421 Farley Road West, Los Gatos; or via email to jmarashian@lgsuhsd.org.  All applications are due by Aug. 8 at 4 p.m.  Applications will be reviewed by the district’s board of trustees at its Aug. 27 meeting.

Quintessential flapper Clara Bow is captured at the height of her charm in the 1927 silent romantic comedy “IT,” set to screen July 31 at 1 p.m. at the Los Gatos Senior Center, 208 E. Main St.
