Parents are being warned to prepare for the heat while the kids are off from school, as warm temperatures are expected to last until October.

The 1,000-mile wide high pressure zone for St Swithin’s Day – Met Office predicts highs of 25C with dry skies

Forecasters warn of a “continental heat dome” taking hold, with London and the South East basking in the best weather.

The Daily Star reported of a “three-month heatwave” which is said to expect to see warm weather hanging around through September.

27C SCORCHER

Temperatures are set to peak at 27C on Wednesday, with the North East even getting some sunny weather.

Met Office meteorologist Helen Roberts told Sun Online: “We’re expecting dry and bright weather this week and Wednesday will see the highest temperature of 27C.

“As for the next three months, we can definitely expect warm weather and bright skies for the most part.”

Early autumn is shaping up to be a warm one, as forecasters predict it to be even hotter than last year’s “Indian Summer” when temperatures hit 26C, making it the hottest October for seven years.

Elisa Booker, from Visit Britain, told Daily Star: “Parents will be breathing a sigh of relief at the lovely weather ahead as kids start their summer holidays.

“Long dry periods with sunshine mean easy and fun days out. I’m sure we will be seeing lots of busy parks, National Trust areas, green spaces and beaches as the sun shines bright.”

BALMY CONDITIONS

Europe had record temperatures of 46C two weeks ago, in which temperatures climbed to a roasting 34C on June 29 – marking the hottest day in the UK of the year so far.

Claire Kennedy-Edwards, senior meteorologist for The Weather Company, told Sun Online: “It is a much more settled outlook across the UK with plenty of sunshine and dry conditions.

“West will be best over the weekend, a northerly flow will mean the warmest temperatures will be over eastern Scotland and south-west England.

“Next week the north-west, south-east split returns bringing plenty of dry warm weather over the south and south-east of the UK.

“There will be some showers to the north-west and temperatures will be around average to slightly above.”

Legend has it that the conditions on St Swithin’s Day will set the tone for the weeks leading up to September.

The myth comes from the rhyme that says: “St Swithin’s Day, if it does rain / Full forty days, it will remain.

“St Swithin’s Day, if it be fair / For forty days, t’will rain no more”.
