US Green Beret Killed in Taliban Attack

A US service member was killed in Afghanistan on July 13, NATO's Resolute Support mission said in a statement

On July 14 morning, the U.S. Army identified the killed soldier as a decorated Green Beret. According to the army statement, Sgt. Maj. James G. "Ryan" Sartor, 40, of Teague, Texas, joined the Army in June 2001 and was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division. Sgt. Maj. Sartor had been deployed to Iraq several times in recent years. He was deployed to Afghanistan, too, in 2017 and 2019.

The US Army noted that he earned several awards and decorations.
