Phil Mickelson reveals that he lost 15 pounds in 6 days by fasting

As Phil Mickelson heads into The Open Championship playing some of his worst golf in years, the five-time major champion is taking some drastic measures to right the ship.

Notably, he stopped eating.

Mickelson has missed the cut in six of his past nine PGA appearances (and finishing 52nd, 71st and 18th in the other three), and he’s seen his fitness as a root of the problem.

Mickelson told his fans on Twitter ahead of The Open Championship at Royal Portrush that he has lost 15 pounds in less than a week by fasting. He’s relied solely on drinking water and a coffee blend during the six-day fast.

Mickelson said:

“I haven’t posted anything because I haven’t felt good about myself and the way I’ve been playing, and so I haven’t done anything or wanted to be in public. The last 10 days, I’ve done what I call a hard reset. Change and try to make things better. I have lost 15 pounds. I’ve done a six-day fast with water and a special coffee blend for wellness.”

He continued:

“I don’t know if it’s going to help me play better or not, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to try to get my best back.”

Mickelson has just one win in 2019, and it came in February at the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm.
