RRRR: In which GrinnellSteve rolls into town for a concert and a game.
Last summer I traveled to Chicago to see my son's band, Will Bennett & The Tells, at Reggie's as they launched their first-ever tour. I followed them to Cincinnati and then took in my first game at Great American Ballpark. I wrote about it here.
This time I'm going to catch the band at Schuba's Tavern on Monday night after having seen the tour's first two stops in Grinnell and Iowa City. Then Tuesday my family and I will be somewhere at Guaranteed Rate Field to see the Sox stick it to the Mets. After that, we'll head home to Grinnell. The band will go on to Detroit, Columbus, and Indy.
This tour is to promote their second album, All Your Favorite Songs, which drops Friday. It's getting some good press, both here and here.
Monday night at Schuba's I'll be the tall old guy wearing a Blind Adam & The Federal League t-shirt. I'll probably look like I've had a stroke. If you wander in, stop by and introduce yourself. I've never made it to a methup, so I've never had the chance to meet any of you. I'd love to rectify that. If you like country-tinged rock and roll or if you just like supporting local bands fronted by Sox fans, come on out. It will be a fun evening.
Tuesday night I have no idea where I'll be sitting. I'll be the tall old guy wearing a Sox jersey. I'll wear my '59 Nellie in honor of Nick Madrigal.
