Abstract: HIgh Resolution Mid-infrarEd Spectrometer (HIRMES) is a facility-class instrument aboard the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) Aircraft Observatory. A TransMIT PTD 406C pulse tube cryocooler (PTC) is used to cool the optical bench and optical components to 4K. A second PTC is dedicated to cool the 3He/4He sorption cooler.
