Instagram Purges Popular Meme Accounts for Violating Terms of Service
If you’ve noticed that some of your favorite meme pages have been deleted from Instagram, here’s why.
The social networking service has suspended at least 30 accounts – with a combined total of more than 33 million followers – for violating its terms of service, The Daily Dot reports.
“These accounts were disabled following multiple violations of our policies, including attempted abuse of our internal processes,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement.
“This is the endgame,” one user tweeted about the news. “40m+ followers and over $600k+ in accounts lost in two days. @instagram @facebook f–king own up to what you did and rollback, you can’t stay silent in this. peronally lost 600k+ followers for no good reason. #reactivatespicy #memepurge.”
Another user replied, “Most of the accounts stole memes from Reddit and the memes were being used without the people’s permission so you guys kinda broke a rule.”
“Why is instagram purging all the meme accounts,” singer Lil Nas X tweeted. “We deserve to exist too.”
