17 hurt when dump truck crashes into school buses in Libertyville
Both buses had students from the North Suburban YMCA Summer Camp in Northbrook. None of the injuries were critical.
Several students were hurt Thursday when a dump truck crashed into two school buses in the north suburbs.
Two school buses were carrying about 70 people near Route 137 and River Road in unincorporated Libertyville about 11:10 a.m. when the truck crashed into the rear of one bus, causing that bus to crash into the bus ahead of it, the Lake County sheriff’s office spokesman Chris Covelli said.
About 17 people on the buses — including drivers and students — were transported to area hospitals, Covelli said. The rest were evaluated by paramedics at the scene.
Both had middle school-age students from the North Suburban YMCA Summer Camp in Northbrook, Covelli said. No one was critically injured.
Parents of the children were discouraged from coming to the scene. Arrangements were being made to bring students back to the camp.
