Historic Greenland Melt Is a "Glimpse of the Future"

Meltwater ponds atop the ice in northwest Greenland on July 30 near the edge of the ice sheet. While summer melt along the periphery of the ice sheet is typical, melting that day covered a much higher area than usual because of a heat wave.
