RAF Chinook Helicopter Used To Save Failing Dam

An RAF Chinook has begun dropping one-tonne sandbags on a collapsed section of wall on the Whaley Bridge Dam.

Engineers say despite their efforts to pump away water and support the dam wall the structure is at a 'critical' point, and fears remain the dam could collapse.

As many as 6000 residents from Whaley Bridge have been evacuated as a precaution.
