SLAMMERS SURVIVE LATE BOOMERS RALLY; WIN 6-3
JOLIET, IL — Led by a strong showing from Clayton Harp, the Joliet Slammers knocked off the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday night in the first of a three-game home series.
Following three scoreless innings, the Boomers brought in the first run on a single to right field from Chase Dawson, bringing in Quincy Nieporte from third. The Slammers answered quickly, driving in their first run on a single to left from London Lindley that brought in Oliver Nunez from second. The Slammers failed to add another, and the 4th ended knotted at 1-1.
Taking the lead in the bottom of the 5th, the Slammers scored on a single from Clayton Harp, bringing in Dash Winningham from second. The Boomers ended the side on a ground out, with the Slammers taking a 2-1 lead into the 6th. The Slammers extended their lead in the bottom of the 6th after Lindley advanced home on a ground out from Jimmy Roche. The inning ended shortly after, with the Slammers holding a 3-1 lead. Later, Harp picked up his second RBI of the game in the bottom of the 7th on a single that drove Peyton Isaacson home from second, bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of the Slammers.
Rallying in the top of the 8th, the Boomers added their second of the game on a single from Alex Polston that drove Matt Rose in from second. Adding another on the next at-bat, Jack Parenty brought Dawson in from second on a single to left. Slammers reliever Ryan Koziol struck out Clint Hardy to end the side, with the Slammers clinging to a 4-3 lead.
The Slammers loaded the bases with no outs to start their half of the 8th, bringing Winningham to the plate. He singled to center, allowing Lindley to score from third. Later, Isaacson drove Riley Krane home from third on a sacrifice fly. A ground out ended the inning, and the Slammers carried a 6-3 lead into the 9th. Staying on the mound, Koziol shut down the Boomers’ attempts to rally in the 9th, securing the four-out save and the Slammers win.

The Slammers and Boomers will square off again tomorrow at 6:05 pm at DuPage Medical Group Field.
