Cardiff boss Neil Warnock confirms retirement plans

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has confirmed he plans to retire at the end of the season.

The 70-year-old, who has managed Cardiff since 2016, begins his final Championship campaign in the dugout with a trip to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Warnock, who has had spells with teams such as Crystal Palace , Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United and Sheffield United, is hoping to end his career on a high by securing a ninth promotion to send the Welsh club back to the top flight.

It would be a lovely way to finish," Warnock told BBC Sport. It couldn't get any better than that, but I'm also a realist and I know how difficult it's going to be.

Asked whether it would be his last campaign, he replied: Absolutely, yes this is my last season.

One or two of my best friends have struggled health wise this year and my wife Sharon and I want to go and do a couple of things while we have our health.

The club is in a great state now. They've got time to look at candidates now and if I can help them in any way before I call it a day then great."
