Journalist bursts the bubble over hopes of a Coutinho to Spurs deal
Increasing speculation linking Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho with a possible loan move to Tottenham Hotspur have been dismissed by journalist Alasdair Gold.
The Sun claim that Spurs are leading the chase to land the former Liverpool playmaker on a temporary basis for the upcoming season after the Catalan giants decided to offer him to clubs across Europe.
Coutinho made the move from Anfield to the Nou Camp for £142million in January of last year but has failed to become a key player for the La Liga champions and has not reached the heights of Suarez or Messi (Mirror).
Sky Sports have even claimed that manager Mauricio Pochettino has personally telephoned the Brazilian international in order to persuade him to make the switch to North London (Sky Sports at 18:00).
Despite the mounting speculation, Gold has described it as ‘noise’ while the club focus on getting other transfer deals completed before the window closes on Thursday.
I don't believe there's much in the Coutinho links from a Spurs perspective. Seems more like noise while they try to get other deals done. Spurs weren't looking for a Ceballos loan so aren't likely to pay mega money for another one, regardless of how good the older Coutinho is.
