Monster carer raped me aged 11 in motels after preying on me at kid’s home
A WOMAN has revealed how a “wicked” carer sent her twisted love letters and raped in her motels when she was just 11 after preying on her at a children’s home.
Evil Paul Setchfield lavished gifts on terrified Roxanne and told her he wanted to marry her in a sickening five year campaign of abuse.
She has now bravely waived her anonymity to reveal the horrific assault she suffered while living at St Leonard’s Children’s Home in Essex.
Ex-model Roxanne, now 51, kept her torment hidden for decades but finally spoke out when cops smashed a historic paedophile ring operating at the home.
Setchfield has now been caged for nine years after being convicted of 11 counts of indecently assaulting Roxanne and a male victim when they were both under 14.
The mum-of-two told The Sun Online: “Paul Setchfield stole my childhood and my innocence, and no amount of justice will ever bring those back.
“He completely broke me down and left me unable to trust anybody. I still struggle to trust people now, which is an awful way to live.
“He was a vile man. He was in a position of trust and he completely violated that. He was twisted, a predator, and he made my life hell. I still suffer flashbacks to the abuse, it’s a living nightmare.
“He was a monster, evil through and through. He was a wicked man and I’m so glad he is locked up where he belongs. Monsters deserve to be caged.”
Roxanne’s ordeal began when her “world fell apart” and she was sent to live at the home aged nine after her single dad struggled to cope raising her alone.
After a year, she settled in and made new friends but Setchfield began working there as a “house parent” and immediately made the youngster “feel incredibly uneasy”.
Roxanne said: “Whenever I passed Paul, I felt like he was checking me out.
“One evening, I was doing my laundry in the washroom when Paul walked in. Suddenly, he grabbed me and tried to kiss me.
“‘Please, don’t tell anybody,’ he pleaded. ‘If you do, I’ll make sure you’re separated from your friends.’
“I’d already lost so much – I couldn’t bear to lose my new friends too. So, I kept it a secret and hoped he wouldn’t come near me again.”
Setchfield then began sending Roxanne explicit love letters and romantic cards telling her loved her and wanted to run away with her.
He lavished the 11-year-old with silk scarves and expensive jewellery and took her to a friend’s house where he held her hand as though they were a “real couple”.
The fiend then made terrified Roxanne watch as he performed a solo sex act – his eyes fixed on her the entire time.
But Roxanne’s nightmare was only just beginning – with Setchfield later taking her to a motel where he sexually abused her for the first time.
She said: “The next time he took me away, he said: ‘I want to marry you, we could start a family.’
“I didn’t know what to say. Paul knew I was 11. It was twisted. I was a child.
“After that, he became much more brazen, abusing me in his own bed at the children’s home.”
When she was 15, Roxanne left the children’s home and escaped Setchfield’s clutches – but she lived with the “dark secret” for decades fearing no one would believe her.
She got married, became a model and had two children and “buried the abuse deep inside”.
Even when police discovered a paedo ring operating at the home and two other carers were convicted of abuse, she was still too frightened to come forward.
It was only when the “burden became too heavy to bear”, that Roxanne bravely opened up and told police how Setchfield had abused her when she was just a child.
In 2017, he was convicted of of 11 counts of indecently assaulting Roxanne and a male victim when they were both under 14 and jailed for nine years.

Roxanne said: “It had taken almost 40 years, but that monster’s evil deeds had finally caught up with him.
“I sincerely hope my story will give courage to other victims.
“If my story helps to bring just one more abuser to justice, it will have been worth the years of pain.”
