Thug beat up female police officer so bad she couldn’t hold her baby
A female police officer couldn’t hold her baby after being battered by a man she was arresting.
Adam McManus, 26, punched PC Alison Laughlan 30 times in the head and threatened to ‘f****** kill her’.
She suffered from concussion and severe bruising on her head, neck and back.
The injuries were so painful she couldn’t hold her eight-month-old daughter.
The brutal attack in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, happened as several officers arrested McManus, who was accused of beating up two neighbours in front of his kids.
It is reported McManus is a Rangers fan and was unhappy on the day after his team side lost to arch rivals Celtic in March.
PC Laughlan, 28, said McManus lashed out when she placed handcuffs around one of his wrists.
She told the Daily Record: ‘The next thing I felt was my head getting bashed from side to side because he just kept hitting,
‘I remember screaming and kind of stumbling.
‘All I could hear was screaming and shouting, he just wouldn’t stop.’
It took seven police officers to pin down and restrain McManus who acted like a ‘wild man’.
He continued put up a fight even after he was hit with batons and sprayed by officers.
After his arrest he spat at the cops and threatened to kill PC Laughlan, warning: ‘I will choke your last breath out of you.’
As he sentenced McManus to three years prison, Sheriff Colin Pettigrew said: ‘Blows to the head, whether by punch or kick, can unfortunately be fatal.
‘That they were not in this case was fortunate but you gave no thought to that.’
McManus was previously jailed in 2009 for a gang attack which left a man brain damaged.
PC Laughlan has been nominated for a police bravery award.
