Emotional Ruth Langsford walks out of This Morning as mental health segment triggers memories of her late sister

Emotional Ruth Langsford today walked off set after a segment on the show triggered memories of her late sister.

Ruth’s beloved elder sister Julia passed away in June after a long battle with her mental health and a phone-in on anxiety was suddenly too much for the star to bear.

As one viewer described her on-going battle with anxiety to This Morning’s resident psychologist, 59-year-old Ruth quietly disappeared backstage.

Once the phone call had finished, her husband and co-host Eamonn Holmes explained to viewers what had happened.

He said: “Ruth is upset and had to leave the studio…because of her sister’s chronic depression.”

Once the segment had finished and before the show cut to the break, he added: “These things are very raw for her following the death of her sister.”

Ruth returned to the show after the commercials and had appeared to be crying off set.

Eamonn then said: “Here we go again…we’ve got Phill Vickery in the kitchen..”

Smiling bravely at the show’s chef, Ruth said: “Is he making me a nice apple crumble?”
