Chelsea fans fear the worst after Manchester United and Jose Mourinho brutally exposed their weakness to the counter-attack
CHELSEA were thumped 4-0 by Manchester United leaving Blues fans despairing after just one Premier League game.
Two goals from Marcus Rashford and further strikes from Anthony Martial and Dan James ensured it was a miserable start for Frank Lampard’s reign.
Despite starting the game on the front foot, Chelsea were 1-0 down at the break, and then in the second half were brutally exposed by the counter-attack.
And speaking on Sky Sports after the game, former Blues gaffer Jose Mourinho dissected just what went wrong for the Londoners at Old Trafford.
He said “There was moments where we were looking at the game from our position, and Chelsea without the ball had a block of six, and another four.
“Tammy Abraham was staying up, Barkley was staying up, Mount was staying up, Pedro was staying up.
“Nowadays you look to the good teams, and the good teams defend compact.
FANS AGREE WITH MOURINHO
“Higher block, lower block, the higher block is more offensive, the lower block is more defensive but always in the block.
“It’s just a basic principle – you have to defend compact and Chelsea were never that.
“It was too easy for United at the moment they recovered the ball to find spaces to counter-attack.
“When every team has the ball, you have to anticipate when you are going to lose the ball.”
The clip of Mourinho’s criticisms was shared on Reddit – and Chelsea fans agreed with the one known as “The Special One”.
