Molly-Mae says she’s had ‘death threats’ since leaving Love Island but says therapy has helped
MOLLY-Mae has revealed she’s had “death threats” since leaving Love Island – but says having therapy has helped.
The 20-year-old suffered vile abuse from trolls who cruelly targeted her and accused the social media influencer of being “obsessed with money” and “fake”.
But after finishing second with her boyfriend Tommy Fury, Molly-Mae insists she’s on cloud nine despite being hounded online.
“I knew I was going to get my fair share of hate, but I didn’t know it would be to this extent,” Molly-Mae told OK! Magazine.
“To be called fake and all these horrible names like ‘Money-Mae’ when I haven’t actually done anything wrong was a shock. It is hard to hear.
“I did [read the negative comments] at the start but then I had to stop; I think it’s best not to. Some of the stuff that’s been said about me is pretty vile. There are death threats, which really isn’t nice.”
During her time on the show Molly-Mae was nicknamed “Money-Mae” by followers who accused her of “fake crying to win the £50,000 cash prize”.
Throughout the series she came under fire numerous times from viewers who are convinced she was pretending to like boyfriend Tommy Fury in order to get to the final of the show.
She was later accused of being two-faced by her fellow Islander Belle Hassan after being Molly voted her out.
Anton even unfollowed her on Instagram – and refused to back down despite an on-air spat at the Reunion Show.
ITV2 previously announced that they had ramped up their duty of care for contestants following the suicides of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis.
Molly-Mae has taken advantage of the Love Island aftercare to help her deal with the abuse.
Her boyfriend Tommy is convinced it’s down to “jealousy” and has described her as “the most genuine and nicest girl I’ve ever met.”
