“Just not good enough” – Some Spurs fans divided over youngster after Villa match
Tottenham Hotspur put in a solid display against Aston Villa in their opening Premier League game of the season, managing to register a 3-1 win, in the end, courtesy of a late flourish.
There were several players who impressed for the home side including debutant Tanguy Ndombele who got the opening goal, Harry Kane who netted a brace and Christian Eriksen who helped Spurs turn the game around after he came on in the second half.
Similarly, there were some players like Erik Lamela and Danny Rose, who were lacklustre and weren’t at their usual level.
However, the performance of one player against Villa seems to be dividing the opinion of Spurs fans on social media – Kyle Walker-Peters.
The 22-year-old was handed a start by Pochettino, and while some fans were impressed with the youngster’s display, others didn’t think he provided enough going forward to be the team’s first choice right back.

Kyle Walker-Peters is nowhere near good enough to play every week if you wanna challenge for the title. If he was you'd have played him already last season. Foyte is also garbage.

I can’t be the only Spurs fans who thinks KWP just isn’t good enough as our first choice RB. He literally runs, then cuts back and plays it simple majority of the time. It could work against weaker sides but against the likes of Mane and co, he’ll get ripped apart.

I think KWP deserves to start next game after his perfomance yesterday, Eriksen is to important for us to bench, 4-1-2-1-2 didnt work so we need to go back to 4-2-3-1 and Im assuming Dele is fit

My biggest issue with KWP is the same problem I have with Ben Davies…
Neither of them will go past their man in the final 3rd. They always stop and pass it inside. Way too predictable.
KWP has pace so is it just down to confidence?

Defensively good but poor in the final third when the cross was required. Could take a lesson from Rose and just keep pinging them into the box and keep creating chances. Too many touches and then back passing when in a good position.

Spurs Web Opinion
At 22 years of age, this is probably a make or break season as far as Walker-Peters’ Spurs career is concerned. While we at Spurs Web believe the youngster put in a tidy performance on Saturday, we share the concerns of some fans with his apparent unwillingness to take defenders on. Perhaps this could change as he becomes more confident with game time.
