Hello from Derbyshire
Hi Everyone.
My name is Joe and I am looking forward to becoming a novice canoer!
I've done a very small amount of canoeing and kayaking before, years ago really, but two weeks ago I joined some work colleagues for a two day canoe trip down the Wye and now I think I'm in love with it. I can't stop thinking about it!
I have a vague plan as follows:
- Hire a canoe at Carsington Water for a couple of hours (with tuition) and get the flat water basics sorted for my wife and I.
- Hire a canoe for a day from Trent Adventure and have 10 hours going down the Trent.
- Decide that I still love it and see if my wife is enthused too.
- Buy a canoe! Probably one of these entry level jobs with the buoyant sandwich layer.
- Sort a River License
- Start exploring local canals
- Take it from there!
Your thoughts on that?
We've already got decent buoyancy aids from the sailing we've done. So , apart from a couple of paddles, is there anything else we'll really need to get cracking? Maybe a dry bag or two, or a barrel?
Does anyone have any recommendations for decent, introductory paddles in the Midlands/S. Yorkshire? I've been browsing the routes on the Go Paddle website, but it's hard to tell which would be the more salient choices.
Looking foward to getting into the forum.
Cheers,
Joe
