[Men's Soccer] Warriors Strike Late for 3-1 win over Men's Soccer Falcons
WICHITA, Kan. – The Midland University Warriors used two goals in the latter stages of the second half to win 3-1 over the Friends University Falcons in the 2019 season opener for both teams tonight (Aug. 24) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The Falcons and Warriors played to a scoreless opening half, with Friends' Tales Avila (JR/Minas Gerais, Brazil) sprinting to shut down a potential breakaway opportunity for Midland late in the period.
Both teams were able break through offensively in the second half, as Robert Wiseman put the Warriors on top with a goal five minutes into the second half.
Isaiah Castillo (SO/Wichita, Kan. ) then squared the match for the Falcons by taking pass to the middle of the box from Eric Carter (FR/Gainesville, Fla. ) and scoring at the 67:06 mark.
But the Warriors had a final surge, getting goals from Mario Bueso and Thomas Crawford just over a minute apart for the two-goal cushion in the 79th minute of the match.
The Warriors outshot the Falcons 14-9 overall and got two shots from five different players.
Castillo, Juan Zamora (SO/LaBelle, Florida) and Marcos Recio Blanco (SR/Santander, Spain) each had two shots for Friends.
Jesus Herrera Rivera (SO/Dodge City, Kan.) made five saves in the net for the Falcons, while Mon Scheepers stopped a pair of shots for Midland.
The Falcons will next be in action next Saturday (Aug. 31) at Dordt College. The match is set for a 5 pm start in Sioux Center, Iowa.
