Player ratings – Son and Lucas get 4, plus a surprise 3 for Spurs v Newcastle
Tottenham fell to a shock 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United at home on Sunday afternoon.
A first half goal from Joelinton was enough to hand the visitors all three points, while Spurs arguably should have been awarded a penalty late on.
Here’s how every Tottenham player rated on the day.
Hugo Lloris, 6 – Made a good save before the goal, which he could do nothing about.
Kyle Walker-Peters, 4 – Didn’t make the necessary bursts forward before being substituted with an injury.
Toby Alderweireld, 6 – Thwarted most of Newcastle’s counter-attacks and looked solid.
Davinson Sanchez, 4 – Caught out of position for the goal and never looked totally assured.
Danny Rose, 5 – Showed a bit more intent than Walker-Peters but his crossing was inconsistent.
Harry Winks, 3 – Really sloppy with his passing and generally slow to get Spurs going in midfield.
Moussa Sissoko, 6 – Performed admirably when he moved to right wing-back after Walker-Peters went off.
Erik Lamela, 4 – Probed in the first half but nothing came off. Subbed for Giovani Lo Celso.
Son Heung-min, 4 – Unlucky to see a volley saved. It was his only good shot on a disappointing return to action.
Lucas Moura, 4 – Missed one of the best chances and was a little erratic throughout.
Harry Kane, 3 – A real off day for Tottenham’s talisman, who missed a clear cut chance to equalise. Unlucky with the penalty decision.
Substitutes
Christian Eriksen, 4 – Couldn’t repeat the impact he made against Aston Villa two weeks ago.
Giovani Lo Celso, 5 – Quiet for the most part but played a fine pass through to Kane for the penalty incident.
Ben Davies, N/A – A late arrival.
