Lord Sugar questions Mauricio Pochettino’s decision on Twitter
Tottenham Hotspur crashed to their first defeat of the season in a toothless performance against Newcastle United.
Spurs had plenty of the ball, but with playmaker Christian Eriksen on the bench, had no way of breaking down a Newcastle side who came to park the bus and it was the visitors who instead found gaping holes at the other end.
Davinson Sanchez and Danny Rose were caught out of position which allowed Joelinton to get on the end of substitute Christian Atsu’s pass and score what proved to be the match winner.
Spurs looked lost in the final third of the pitch and had no answer to unlock the Magpie’s defence.
After the match, former Spurs chairman Lord Sugar took to Twitter to criticise the display and to also question the reason why Eriksen was left on the bench.
Not a good performance from @SpursOfficial today . Harry touched the ball about 3 times.
Not sure why Erikson did not start .— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) August 25, 2019
Opinion
The reality is that Eriksen’s future at the club is still up in the air until the European transfer window closes on September 2nd. We cannot pin all our creative hopes on one player, especially one who doesn’t want to play for us any more.
