Steel is Real -- sets Canadian Hour Record (65-69 yr)
The Day of the Hour attracted record attempts at the Milton Velodrome last Saturday. A friend of mine, Peter Leiss, set a new Canadian record of 39.619 km for his age group, riding a (modern) steel Mariposa track bike. Long-time randonneurs (two PBPs and a Raid Pyrénéen each) in their younger days, he and his wife are awesome tandemists. With the building of this lovely velodrome for the Pan Am games in 2015 they both took up track riding and Peter decided he wanted to try for an hour record. We've seen very little of him the past year what with his disciplined and closely supervised training and so it was great to see him in action on Saturday. Bon courage, Peter! Go steel!
