Is Julie Chen Moonves (‘Big Brother’) about to prank America by announcing surprise double eviction?

0

Big Brother’s” first ever Prank Week was full of unexpected gaffes and gags, with Nick Maccarone being named America’s Prankster, Cliff Hogg, Nicole Anthony and Jessica Milagros on pie-in-the-face duty, the Veto drawing box being full of slime, etc. But we loyal Season 21 viewers have yet to get pranked — unless you count Wednesday’s fun false opening involving last season’s players. For Thursday’s live episode, might Julie Chen Moonves have the ultimate prank up her sleeve in the form of a surprise double eviction? In past seasons audiences have always known a week in advance that two houseguests would soon be leaving, but this being the conclusion of Prank Week, all bets are off.

Scheduling note: CBS has announced that a normal endurance Head of Household competition will begin at the conclusion of Thursday’s episode, which suggests there won’t be a double eviction. However, that could just be the network setting the stage for the ultimate prank. We’ll all find out soon enough!

We’re currently in the ninth week of competition without a double eviction episode, which is quite late in the game historically. Last summer was the exception to the rule, with the first and only double eviction not arriving until the 11th week. As you’ll recall, that was the night Haleigh Broucher and Brett Robinson were both sent packing. It was also the first time Julie added “Moonves” to her name in the wake of her husband’s #metoo scandal.

The last season with two double evictions was the 19th, and they were somewhat close together: Week 7 and Week 10. In Season 18, the sole double eviction played out in the seventh week of competition. Then for Season 17, once again it was Week 7 and Week 10 for the two double eviction nights. In both Seasons 16 and 15, the sixth and 10th weeks were double evictions. We could go on and on, but as you see, it’s rare for the houseguests not to experience this tried-and-true twist so late in the summer.

Don’t forget, even though this current season began with the normal amount of houseguests (16) we have one extra player at this stage in the competition because of Cliff. This fan-favorite competitor was evicted back in the third week, then immediately earned his way back into the house thanks to the Camp Comeback twist.

If the double eviction happens on Thursday, that means the evening will begin with the houseguests voting live to eliminate either Nick or Christie Murphy. Following Julie’s interview with the evictee, the remaining players (not counting Head of Household Holly Allen) will then compete to become the next HOH. The winner will choose two nominees, and a Veto competition will immediately take place. Following the Veto ceremony, the house will then vote to evict a second person live on air.
