My lover dumped me because I ‘liked’ a snap of a girl on social media

DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend dumped me because I liked a girl she hates on social media. She says I have broken her trust and she doesn’t think it will ever come back.

We are both 17 and she’s my first serious girlfriend. We have been rowing over silly things for a couple of weeks, but this tipped us over the edge.

I love her so much and want her back.

I just keep breaking down in tears. She is either blunt when I message her or ignores me.

Her family all like me and her auntie even messages saying she’s sorry we couldn’t work things out.

They miss me too. Her best friend says not to give up.

DEIDRE SAYS: Speak to her face–to-face or write her an old-fashioned letter.

Tell her how you feel and put your side. Then give her space for, say, three or four weeks.

If she does not get in touch, then accept it is over and start to move on.
