WATCH: Russell Wilson served as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator vs. Raiders

0

Russell Wilson did not take snaps in the Seattle Seahawks’ final preseason game Thursday. While that’s not exactly news, as it follows the trend of most NFL teams benching starters in the preseason finale, what Wilson did on the sidelines was unusual.

The 30-year-old put on a headset and served as the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator during the second quarter of the contest, as both Paxton Lynch and Geno Smith competed for the opportunity to be Wilson’s backup.

The quarterback’s first series produced  a four-play, 52-yard scoring drive. A 41-yard reception by Jazz Ferguson from Smith highlighted the scoring series that ended with an 11-yard touchdown reception by Jacob Hollister.

“Russ is a great play-caller actually,” Smith commented after the game, according to Seahawks Wire. “I was impressed. He dialed up what we talked about earlier. He said he was going to dial up a few things and he was right on cue. We went out there and we executed, so we made him look good tonight, he did a great job. It was great to see him do that, that was pretty cool.”
