Another Texas GOP congressman is retiring

Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas) became the latest Texas Republican congressman to announce he won't be seeking re-election. Flores made the decision public Wednesday, joining the likes of Reps. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) and Will Hurd (R-Texas), among others, who will also be stepping down from their posts.

In a statement, Flores, who has held his seat since 2010, said he was honoring a term-limit pledge he made when he was first elected during the GOP's Tea Party wave. Flores became the chair of the conservative Republican Study Committee and has been known for aligning himself with party leadership.

Flores represents the Waco, Texas, area, which has become reliably Republican, making it unlikely a Democrat will present a legitimate challenge for the seat even in Flores' absence from the ballot. He never picked up less than 57 percent of the vote during his tenure, and President Trump won the district by 18 points in the 2016 general election. Read more at The Hill and CNN.
