KOIN’s Cart of the Week: Jojo

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — KOIN’s Cart of the Week is Jojo in Southeast Portland.

The cart opened in Sellwood last year but moved to a new pod on SE Powell Boulevard in July. The pod, called The Original, is expanding.

Owner Justin Hintze had no restaurant experience before opening the cart. He had a love of jojos, the fried potato delicacy, however.

The cart’s fried chicken sandwich is also extremely popular and has helped catapult the new business to success. The success hasn’t come without challenges, though.

“One of the main challenges has been growing sustainably. At first I was too slow because my name wasn’t out yet, and then once my name started getting out, I got too busy. So being able to maintain quality while growing has been a challenge so far, thankfully we’ve been able to do it so far,” he said.

The cart was also recently broken into, but Hintze doesn’t seem deterred. He is excited for the new pod to continue growing with the addition of other carts.
