[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Opens Season with Victory
Doane Women's Tennis opened the 2019-20 season with a 4-3 win over Wartburg (Iowa) on Saturday morning in Crete. The new scoring system placed into effect this season benefited the Tigers as doubles play now counts as one team point, matching the system that has been in place at the NCAA D1 level for several years.
The Tigers fell behind 1-0 after doubles play as the Knights won all three matches. Doane bounced back with four victories in singles play. In addition to the doubles scoring change, singles play no longer has a super tie-break in the third set. Now players will play out the final set. Four of the matches went to the third set with each team winning two of the matches.
Doane's match with William Jewell was cancelled as rain interrupted play shortly after doubles play began. The teams called off the match after a three-hour delay.
