[Women's Soccer] Wildcats Strike Late to Slip by Women's Soccer Falcons, 3-2
WICHITA, Kan. – The Culver-Stockton College Wildcats found the net with less than two minutes remaining to hand the Friends University Falcons their first loss of the 2019 season, 3-2 today (Sept. 7) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
Kirstin Jannen put in the winning goal for CSC, hooking in a shot to the back left corner of the net at the 88:20 mark.
It was the culmination of a back-and-forth second half, as Jazelle Gonzalez (SR/Dallas, Texas) had got free on a breakaway past the keeper to pull the Falcons even at 2-2 in the 63rd minute.
Angel Tran (JR/Frisco, Texas) put the Falcons on top in the 17th minute of the first half by scoring off a goalkeeper deflection.
A pair of penalty kick goals at the 45:22 mark and then in the 55th minute gave the Wildcats a 2-1 edge.
The Falcons managed to out-shoot the Wildcats 16-11 overall and 10-9 on-goal, led by three shots from Gonzalez.
Lauren Ferguson (SR/Wentzville, Mo. ) made six saves in the net for Friends (2-1), while Courtney Croghan recorded seven stops for the Wildcats (4-1).
The Falcons will remain at home and host Southwestern Christian University Tuesday evening (Sept. 10) at 6 pm.
