[Volleyball] Volleyball Falcons Split on Final Day of Baker Tournament

Baldwin City, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons split two matches at the Baker University Tournament, losing 3-0 to the Graceland University Yellowjackets before rebounding to defeat the Missouri Valley College Vikings 3-1 today (Sept. 7) in Baldwin City, Kan.

The Falcons fell by tight scores of 25-22, 25-21 and then 25-23 to the Yellowjackets.

Ashleigh Hunter (SR/Andale, Kan.) led the Falcons with a season-high 14 kills and Jana Boston (SR/Newton, Kan.) produced 33 assists.

Destani Garten (SR/Pratt, Kan. ) had a team-high 18 digs and Korianna Tullis (SR/Derby, Kan. ) chipped in with 15 digs.

Against the Vikings, the Falcons dropped the first game 25-19, but roared back to capture the next three sets 25-16, 25-17 and 25-22.

The Falcons had three players in double-figure kills vs. Missouri Valley, led by Sarah Lazar (SO/Rose Hill, Kan. ) with 13. Tiffany Hurd (JR/Gilbert, Ariz.) had 12 and Hunter put in 11 kills.

Boston paced everyone with 47 assists, the second highest total of the year for the Falcons' all-time assist leader.

Garten finished with a season-high 20 digs, with Boston adding 10 digs.

The Falcons will next compete in the LaQuinta Inn and Suites Volleyball Tournament next weekend at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan.

The first match next weekend for the Falcons will be Friday afternoon (Sept. 13) at 2 pm vs. Dakota State University. The Falcons will then play the University of Montana Western later that night at 7 pm.
