Reds’ offense shut down in loss to Diamondbacks
Alex Young struck out 12 Reds in the shutout loss
The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game
Luis Castillo pitched a hell of a game but unfortunately had no help from the offense. He went 7.2 innings and struck out 10 batters while allowing two runs on two hits with three walks. He reached double-digit strikeouts for the fifth time this season and also notched 200 strikeouts for the season. Well done, Mr Castillo.
An honorable mention is due to Kevin Gausman, who came into the game in the 9th inning with the bases loaded and nobody out and struck out all three batters he faced.
Key Plays
- The Diamondbacks struck first in this game but it took until the top of the fourth inning to do it. Jarrod Dyson led off with a walk and then stole second. Ketel Marte then singled to bring in Dyson. A double by Eduardo Escobar would put runners on second and third and then a groundout by Christian Walker brought in Marte to bring the score 2-0.
- The Reds would only muster three hits and struck out 12 times, which typically isn’t enough to come back from a monstrous 2-0 deficit. D’Backs win.

- The Reds will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon. Anthony DeSclafani will take the mound for the Reds while he will be opposed by old friend Mike Leake.
