Daily News high school football top 10 rankings, Sept. 8
There was a lot of movement in last week’s rankings, there’s even more this week after Oaks Christian topped Sierra Canyon and Calabasas lost in a nail biter to Serra in double overtime.
1. Grace Brethren (3-0): The Lancers are playing the best football right now, and they’ve proven that with all three wins this season. Grace Brethren travels to Oak Hills in Hesperia this week.
2. Calabasas (2-1): The Coyotes drop from being the No. 1 team in the area since mid August, but not by much after losing in a double-overtime heartbreaker to Serra of Gardena 26-20. Calabasas takes on a very good La Habra team on Friday at home.
3. Notre Dame (2-0): The Knights routed Moorpark 42-0, led by sophomore quarterback Zachary Siskowic, who threw almost 300 yards and three touchdowns in his first varsity start after starter Cooper Meek was injured in the team’s season opener. Next up is Paraclete at home.

4. Oaks Christian (2-1): The Lions knocked off Sierra Canyon 21-14 in a near must-win game after its loss to Grace Brethren the week before. But the challenges don’t stop for Oaks Christian, which travels to Alemany this week.
5. Sierra Canyon (2-1): The Trailblazers took a setback with its loss to Oaks Christian, but this is the same team that started last season 0-2 before going on to win the CIF Southern Section Division 3 title. There’s no quit in Sierra Canyon Next up: Valencia on Saturday at Granada Hills Charter.
6. Alemany (3-0): Despite an unbeaten start, the Warriors drop one spot from No. 5, but have a chance to climb with Friday’s game at home against Oaks Christian – a true test for quarterback Miller Moss, who has been played just one half of football each of the past two weeks because of week opponents.

7. Valencia (2-0): A real test for the Vikings on Saturday after wins over Division 7 Arcadia and Division 6 Silverado. It will be the first time quarterback Ryan Morrison sees high-level athletes on defense.
8. Paraclete (2-1): The Spirits have tested themselves in all three game and the gauntlet continues with it travels to a Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks this week. It could be a high-scoring affair due to the weapons both teams have offensively. But if Paraclete can’t stop the run, it could be a long night.
9. St. Francis (2-0): The Golden Knights stay afloat for a second straight week after squeaking out another narrow victory. A win is a win. Next up: a hungry Westlake team that is still searching for its first win of the season.
10. Chaminade (1-2): The Eagles claim their first win over the season after dominating Birmingham with a versatile running game. Each game has seems to tell us more – good and bad – about Chaminade. This week’s game against unbeaten Crespi could calm the rocky waters for Chaminade after a rough start, or it will tell us that Crespi belongs in the Daily News top 10.
Others: Crespi (3-0)
