[Men's Soccer] Men's Soccer Shuts Out Brevard, 1-0

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Montreat College men's soccer returned to the win column Saturday night after defeating local rival Brevard College 1-0 at Pulliam Stadium. The Cavs currently stand at 2-2 with conference play coming up next weekend.

The Cavaliers outshot the Tornados 21-7 in the contest, with 12 of those hitting the goal.

"I'm glad we were able to come out of this game with a win, but it was a frustrating night in front of the goal," said head coach Michael Bruce. "Again, we created a lot of chances, but were unable to convert them. I think we lacked our usual intensity during the match which could be due to us having a quick turnaround from our game on Thursday. I believe the time we have between now and our next game will serve us well as we recover and work on improving our ability in front of the goal."

An early goal from Andy Del Angel got the Cavs on the board in the 12th minute when he capitalized on a pass from Raphael Duarte. The Cavs would have a lot more chances, including two straight shots off the crossbar in the opening minutes of the second half, but Del Angel's goal would be all his squad needed as goalkeeper Kevin Gonzalez was perfect in net. In addition to a team save, Gonzalez stopped three shots for a shutout.

Up Next: The Cavs host their last non-conference opponent before opening league play when Piedmont Internationals comes to town Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff.
