East Bay man indicted on gun, drug charges

An Antioch man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he possessed heroin and a machine gun, authorities said.

Terry Ferguson, 34, also was charged with possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, according to a grand jury indictment unsealed earlier this week. Authorities said he had multiple guns in his possession when he was arrested in March and that he used equipment to create untraceable guns and to convert one of the guns into a machine gun.

Those so-called “ghost guns” have no serial number and can’t be traced to an original owner.

Police arrested Ferguson after serving a warrant at his home, where authorities said they found an assault-style SKS rifle, two AR-15 rifles, an illegally modified handgun and a pistol.

Ferguson previously was convicted 2008 and 2014 of charges that included child abuse and reckless evasion.

His trial is scheduled to begin in October.
