My friend is angry at me for jibe about crush on her teacher

DEAR DEIDRE: I JOKINGLY said to my friend that I thought she looked at one of our teachers like she wanted her.

She took it the wrong way and was really upset.

We didn’t speak for months.

I know at least one of her friends hates me.

I’m a 14-year-old girl and my friend is 15.

We were really close and I liked her a lot.

Now her friends talk about me behind my back, stare and make fun of me. I tried to apologise and even wrote her a letter saying sorry but nothing changed.

We didn’t see one another over the summer holidays and now we are back at school it is just the same.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s not unusual for students to have a crush on a teacher but your joke hit a nerve.

You’ve done your best to make amends but sadly she is not up for trying yet.

She may suddenly get over it but it may be best for you to accept things as they are for now.
