Garden tip: Marin offers 100 diverse community gardens

0

A community garden is any piece of land gardened by a group of people, utilizing either individual or shared plots on private or public land. The land may produce fruit, vegetables, and/or ornamentals. There are 100 community gardens in Marin of five different types. Neighborhood gardens are often just referred to as community gardens. Examples are the Mill Valley community garden and the Terra Linda community garden.

School gardens are found at places like Hidden Valley School in San Anselmo and San Pedro School in San Rafael. Demonstration gardens include Falkirk Cultural Center in San Rafael and College of Marin Indian Valley campus in Novato. Faith-based gardens are found at St. Stephen’s Church in Belvedere and Congregation Kol Shofar in Tiburon. There is an institutional garden at San Quentin.

What a wonderful opportunity these gardens offer to gardeners of all ages.

— Katie Martin, UC Marin Master Gardener
