San Jose: Pedestrian dies after being hit by car
On Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, a man died of injuries he suffered after being hit by a car at the intersection of Bascom and Union avenues in San Jose on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, according to San Jose police.
SAN JOSE – A pedestrian died Thursday after being struck by a car near Willow Glen a day earlier, authorities said.
The collision occurred just before 9 p.m. Wednesday at Union and Bascom avenues, according to San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten.
Tepoorten said the adult male victim was walking eastbound in the middle of the intersection when he was hit by a white 2017 Chevrolet Volt traveling northbound on Union.
The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Thursday, according to Tepoorten.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as David Garrett Beck, 28.
The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The death marks the city’s 36th traffic fatality of the year and the second this week within the San Jose Police Department’s jurisdiction. On Wednesday, an 8-year-old boy died of injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle crash at Senter Road and Nokomis Drive on Sunday.
A 58-year-old woman also died in a hit-and-run collision on McKean Road south of Country View Drive on Thursday. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
