MoH responds to NDMA reports

KUWAIT: Responding to FDA and EMA warnings that some ranitidine antacid and antihistamine drugs, including Zantac, include the carcinogenic impurity N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), the health ministry’s assistant undersecretary for food and medical control Dr Abdullah Al-Bader said special preventive measures will be taken including withdrawing samples of these medications for further analysis in collaboration with international organizations until a final decision is made. But Bader stressed that no international organization had so far requested withdrawing the medicines from markets around the world. – A Saleh
