0

Joe Cole hailed Roberto Firmino’s impact from the bench in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 win against Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp opted to start the Brazil international on the bench in favour of Champions League final hero Divock Origi for the visit of Newcastle.

Liverpool FC were behind in the seventh minute when Jetro Willems scored a brilliant solo goal to give Newcastle a surprise advantage.

The Premier League leaders were level in the 28th minute when Sadio Mane scored a superb goal to restore parity in the early kick-off.

Firmino was brought on in the first half after Origi suffered a suspected ankle problem.

The Brazilian forward wasted no time having a positive impact when he teed up Mane to double the home side’s lead.

Firmino produced a genius flick to allow Mohamed Salah to give the home side a two-goal cushion.

The Liverpool FC no9 teed up Mohamed Salah for his goal in the second half to cap a brilliant performance.

Former Liverpool FC playmaker Cole was full of praise for Firmino following his impact on the Premier League clash.

“Firmino made a massive difference,” Cole told BT Sport.

“He won the ball. It was a lovely weighted pass. When Firmino gets it and turns, Mane and Salah are on the run.”

Liverpool FC are sitting at the top of the Premier League table following five successive victories to start the season.

The Reds will begin their Champions League campaign on Tuesday night with a difficult trip to Serie A side Napoli.
