UFC's Sarah Frota suspended two years for USADA violation

0

UFC women’s flyweight Sarah Frota has been suspended two years after running afoul of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

The suspension is the result of an in-competition drug test conducted at UFC 240 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

According to USADA, which announced the suspension Tuesday, the 32-year-old Brazilian tested positive for multiple stanozolol metabolites, including 16α-hydroxystanozolol, 3, 16-dihydroxystanozolol, and 4β,16-dihydroxystanozolol in a urine sample provided the day of the show.

Frota (9-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) lost a second-round TKO to Gillian Robertson on the card, which kept the former Dana White’s Contender Series Brazil competitor winless in the UFC.

If Frota’s fighting career continues, it will be elsewhere. According to MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz, the UFC has released Frota.

The suspension is retroactive to the night of the fight, which means she will be eligible to reapply for her license on July 21, 2021. The Edmonton Combative Sports Commission, which oversaw the event at Rogers Place, has issued a concurrent two-year suspension.
