Kamala Harris Tumbles to Sixth Place in Iowa

0

Kamala Harris's poll numbers are in free-fall in Iowa, according to a poll conducted this week that found her in sixth place with voters in the pivotal primary state.

The poll, first reported by Politico and conducted by one of Harris's own pollsters, found the California senator supported by just 5 percent of Iowa voters, a 13-point drop from where she was after the first primary debate in July.

Harris has made Iowa a priority—she was the first up on the airwaves and just embarked on a bus tour across the state. But her poll numbers have continued to plummet around the country since her standout debate performance at the beginning of the summer.

When the same poll was conducted in July, Harris was in second place behind only Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) and a point ahead of former vice president Joe Biden. Now Harris finds herself in sixth place, behind Biden, Warren, South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.).

Harris has also seen her popularity tumble in her home state of California, where a poll this week found her in fifth place behind Biden, Warren, Sanders, and businessman Andrew Yang.

Harris has labeled herself a "top-tier" candidate.
