Aerial pictures reveal raging fire completely destroyed Grade II Edwardian mansion
A huge fire has totally destroyed a grade II listed building in Cumbria.
Around 40 firefighters battled the blaze throughout the night at Scalesceugh Hall, near Carlisle, which broke out just before 11pm yesterday.
The Edwardian Mansion was well alight by the time fire crews from across the county arrived at the scene.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said no one was injured in the blaze.
The building’s owners Owners Bruno and Dr Anita Herdeiro, told the BBC that they were indebted to the firefighters for their ‘tireless efforts’ in tackling the fire, which was finally brought under control at 6am in the morning.
Seven engines, an aerial ladder and a water browser were at the scene throughout the night.
The owners of the building were hoping to convert it into retirement apartments.
Residents at the retirement estate say there were left shaken by the blaze.
Many had to be evacuated by firefighters in the middle of the night as the blaze threatened to engulf their homes.
